Distribution: Occurring chiefly east of the Cascade crest in Washington; British Columbia to California, east to Colorado.

Habitat: Moist to rather dry areas, foothills to high elevations in the mountains.

Flowers: May-August

Origin: Native

Description:
General:

Slender, erect, glabrous annual, the simple or moderately-branched stem 5-20 cm. tall.

Leaves:

Leaves linear-elliptic, 1-2 cm. long and up to 5 mm. broad, the lower in whorls of 4, one pair smaller, the upper merely opposite.

Flowers:

Flowers solitary in the axils, the peduncles elongating up to 3 cm. in fruit, widely spreading, the fruit nodding; calyx obsolete; corolla white, 3-lobed, minute, soon deciduous; ovary 2-celled, inferior.

Fruits:

Fruit dry, 2.5-3.5 mm. high, pubescent with short, hooked hairs.
